BIOGRAPHY
“Change your story, change your life”. The better a person understands their story and how that shapes the stories we tell ourselves, the better equipped they become to reframe that story to one of resilience, hope and healing. Rather than asking “what is wrong with me?” Clients will be encouraged to begin to ask “what happened to me?” This shift allows for greater self-awareness and self-compassion to grow. Within the counselling relationship I will work with the client to support a more secure connection to self. Fears, longings, desires and needs can be understood and responded to in a more adaptive manner.
My approach to counselling is client centred and holistic. I hope to help clients appreciate the interconnected nature between the brain and body while respecting each client’s individual needs and journey. Meeting clients with unconditional positive regard and a non-judgemental stance I will seek to understand the client’s experience and perspective as a means to establish trust in therapeutic sessions. In collaboration with clients I will work towards understanding their story and support them on a path to wellness. I aspire to bring hope, help and healing to clients.
Prior to becoming a mental health practitioner Wendy taught high school Social Studies and English for several years. When I am not busy in my professional role you can find me on walks in our beautiful trail system, attending a yoga or fitness class, listening to podcasts, reading a great novel, or cooking a new recipe I have found on social media for family or friends. I also keep busy as a wife and mom of two daughters and two adorable dogs.
